Just got back from market. I was only there Friday afternoon, Saturday and a few hours Sunday. It wasn't enough time. I was able to talk to alot of artists and even though I had a plan, some things took longer than expected.
For example, the food. My plan was to get some food items for the store. Well of course I had to taste everything then decide which vendors I like best. This took hours.
Then I would go looking for one artist on one of the many floors in the three buildings and discover a number of other artisans that didn't come up in my pre-plan of seeing all the American made items. Needless to say I still felt I could have spent more time.
I was able to find at least 15 new artisans to feature in the store and that doesn't count the others that I may add later. I won't mention what's coming in this post but be sure to follow on Instagram and Facebook to see new items as soon as they land in the boutique. Be sure to sign up for the newsletter to get news about special events and new artists.
Then when I got back on Monday, two new local artists showed up with fabulous items for the boutique.
Teresa Hollmeyer is one of our fabulous local artists. She makes the beautiful mosaic windows at Azure Sky.
Recently Teresa was commissioned to make mosaic art for two benches for the town of Huntersville. Each bench is designed then constructed on fiberglass mesh before being mounted on the two benches. The finished art pieces should be in place by July 1st.
Congratulations to Teresa for being picked for this wonderful project.
Novant Health and ASC of Charlotte donated the funds for this public art project.
As you may already know, the boutique is open 6 days a week. So, on Sundays I tend to do errands or just veg out. Well, last week I get an email from a gift shop I used to send my pottery to in NY. They wanted 50 more egg separators. So, since I have promised 120 heart dishes for my son's wedding in July and I have to fill the kiln, I said yes of course I'll make you your egg separators. So, this Sunday I started his order. It will take me 3 Sundays to finish his, then I will start things I need in the boutique, including my ring dishes which I already have 4 promised to a customer. Lastly, I will make the heart dishes and get it all done by July.
Some of you may know that my mom makes the tea towels here at the boutique. This week she was preparing to start making a fresh batch of towels when a small disaster struck.
First, let me give some background. More than 10 years ago my parents had to move out of the farm house I grew up in because the mold levels in the basement(from numerous floods) had caused my mom to start having horrible hives on a daily basis. She went through testing for many years trying to stop the hives and finally found a asthma shot that she has to get every 2 weeks. She is much better now but she avoids mold as much as she can.
Well, this week a leak in the water softener was discovered. It has seeped through a wall, china hutch and the kitchen floor. Mold was discovered in the china hutch, so my mom packed up her important belongings (her embroidery machine being 1st on the list) and headed to my sisters. They tell her it will be about 3 months to fix.
But what I think is funny. The move hasn't slowed her down. In the same call telling me about the move and to call her on the cell phone, she is asking me what towels I need. She's already back to work.
Hello, Welcome to my first blog post here at Azure Sky Gifts. Now if you have followed me through my pottery career, you know that I had a pottery blog for many years. Over there I talked mostly about my journey in clay but sometimes wrote about other adventures.
My Plan for this blog is to post about anything from an artist I would like to feature to my vacation photos or my children.
I guess I will start by saying for those that don't know, that my youngest son, Jassim is engaged. Some of you may have met him here at the boutique last summer. I am in the process of looking at dresses and planning the rehearsal dinner. It's very exciting. He will marry in July in Blowing Rock. I will update here when there is more to tell.
I will try to post at least once a week. Please comment to let me know that you are reading this and what else you would like to hear about.
